Starflex installation instructions

We would like to sincerely thank you for choosing our Starflex ethanol box for your vehicle.

We designed our Starflex ethanol housing to be durable and reliable. Made from high quality materials, it is designed to withstand the harshest conditions and to last over time.

Additionally, our starflex enclosure undergoes rigorous testing before each shipment to ensure its quality and performance. So you can have peace of mind knowing that you have made a choice that has already proven itself for over 10 years

We are confident that you will be fully satisfied with our case. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.

Indications

Attention: Although the box is sent to you already tuned for your engine, the installation of these boxes is technical and requires skills in automotive mechanical and electronic repair, therefore we strongly advise you
to have it installed by a professional, and more particularly by one of our approved installers.

However, we remain available at +33 (0)6 01 79 59 29 for any technical questions during assembly, do not hesitate to put us in touch with your installer if necessary.

We decline all responsibility in the event of a problem during installation or adjustment that you wish to modify.

In the event of damage to the housing or harness, we will not provide any reimbursement or warranty coverage.

Checks before installation

Before any installation, it is essential to carry out the following checks with your OBD scanner in order to
to make sure everything is working well:

1) Checking motor faults

No engine fault recorded

2) Checking inlet pressures (MAP probe) if present

Inlet pressure < 0.39 bars at idle (except certain Renault/Dacia which display 10, certain engines equipped with
only with a MAF flow meter)

3) Checking the consistency of the IAT and ECT temperature probes

When cold, engine not started, the intake temperature and engine temperature sensors must be
identical +/- 2°

4) Checking the STFT (Short Term Fuel Trim) and LTFT (Long term Fuel Trim) injection corrections

Engine idling,
Engine temperature > 60°C
With lead-free
Air conditioning and ventilation turned off
Headlights off

  • LTFT long term injection corrections should not be <-5% and >+10% (except some Renault/Dacia and
Fiat which have x4 values compared to other brands: i.e. -20%/+32%)
  • If a V motor there is no need for a long term difference > 8% between the two sides which are LTFT1 and LTFT2 5) Checking the motor reaction
With the engine idling, accelerate very quickly to full throttle and release just as quickly so as not to reach more
of 2500 rpm, the engine must react (accelerate) immediately without hesitating (misfire) 6) Carry out an auditory and visual check of the engine operation (no leaks,
fluid levels, condition of air hoses, cooling, fuel and others) 7) At idle, engine operation should be linear without intermittent jerking

If one of these checks is not conclusive, it will in this case be necessary to carry out
the necessary repairs otherwise there is a very high risk of malfunction
ethanol.

Make sure your fuel lines are free of marks.
deterioration, crack or other.

It is also advisable to install new spark plugs which will provide
to your ignition all the ease necessary for optimal operation.

Replace your fuel filter after 1500km with E85, unless it is a
pump and filter assembly submerged in the tank.

Installation
  • – Remove the engine cover(s).
    – Locate the injectors.
    – Disconnect the injectors

Checking injector impedance

  • – Set your multimeter to the Ω position then check the value between the 2 poles of each injector.
  • – The impedance of each injector must be between 9 and 17 Ω.
  • – The impedance must be the same on all injectors

Check the polarity of the injector connectors: 3 possible methods

First method:

  • – Place the multimeter in the ohm (Ω) position:
    – The number 1 must be displayed on the screen

Check that the ohmeter is working properly by touching the two pins of the multimeter.

The value displayed on the screen should drop to 0.01 Ohm, which indicates that nothing is resisting the passage of current between the 2 pins of the multimeter.

Take two injector connectors, touch the two pins of the multimeter on the same side of each injector connector. (In the photo pins 1 and 2 of the multimeter are connected to the left on each engine injector connector).

If the multimeter indicates 1, it is not good, in this case check the other two sides of the two engine injector connectors.

If the multimeter reads 0.01 ohm as in the photo then this will be the desired side to match the red wires of the male connectors in the kit. This means that when you switch on the ignition, the +12V arrives on this side on the injectors.

In this photo, the +12V sought will be on the left side of each connector since the multimeter indicates 0.01 ohm.

Second method (very simple):
In almost all cases, the +12v injector can be recognized by its wire color which is identical on each injector connector.

Third method:
Using a voltmeter, check which side the +12V comes from.
– Place the negative terminal of the voltmeter on the negative terminal of the battery.
– Check within 2 seconds after switching on the ignition from which side the +12V arrives using the positive terminal of the voltmeter.

Remember to turn off the ignition once this check has been carried out

__________________________________________________________

Once you know the side supplied with +12V, the important thing will be to make the red wire of the male connector of the kit coincide with the +12V of the female ECU connector, this for each injector.

Once connected, route the harness to its desired location.

Secure the harness securely using the clamps provided.
Make sure that no cables are in contact with or near a hot source, such as the engine block or exhaust manifold.

Attach the black wire to the negative (-) of the battery or to a bodywork component but never to the engine.

__________________________________________________________

  • – Connect the harness to the white plug on the printed circuit, paying attention to the direction:
    – The guides of the female connector must be housed on each side of the male connector
    – Insert the connector until all guides are at the same height.

__________________________________________________________

  • – Close, screw the housing cover
  • – Secure the housing in a location that is protected from engine heat and bad weather.

The installation is complete, all you have to do is start the vehicle

Your engine is now capable of handling super unleaded and E85 biofuel.

Start the engine, when starting it is possible that the engine runs very low (on the verge of stalling) for 4 to 5 seconds then returns to its usual idle: this is not systematic but if this happens it is nothing to worry about. seriously, this is the time required for the ecu calculator to take over the operation of the box.

The installation is complete. You can now fill your tank with E85 and do all your refueling with this biofuel
